TEDxGreenvilleSalons
TEDxGreenvilleSalons are a series of monthly events that allow the growing TEDxGreenville “tribe” to continue sharing Ideas Worth Spreading between each annual TEDxGreenville main event. These Salons are being held at various venues across Greenville to spark dialogues and allow people to form new relationships and experience other cultures, build new relationships, interact with different generations, or expand their understanding of various industries and art forms. It’s all about spreading great ideas, sharing perspectives, and helping surface amazing stories and talent from right here in Greenville.
If you have an idea for a TEDxGreenvilleSalon or would like to get more involved, please contact our Inclusion Team for more information.

“The Wisdom of Youth” at Fine Arts Center
Wow, what a night! Anyone who says that our youth aren’t ready to take on the challenges and seize the opportunities of the 21st century hasn’t met:
• The incredible young adults studying at Greenville’s Fine Arts Center;
• Ben Riddle and the HeadStrong Generation;
• Chad Tomberlin, the leader of the Substreet Parkour Team;
• Katie Payne, the founder of That Awkward Stage Theatre Company.
Adults take note: wisdom (plus leadership and inspiration) are indeed abundant in our youth!

December 2011 – TEDxGreenville Salon
“TODOS INcluded” at McAlister Square
A room full of interesting people from different countries, cultures, and walks of life was on hand to enjoy the December Salon TODOS INcluded. Adela Mendoza and ACCH were a tremendous help in making it a special evening. The first speaker of the night was Greenville Hospital interpreter Irma Luna, who told a deeply moving personal story about the tragic loss of her sibling at birth due to kidnapping and her family’s sense of hopelessness due to an inability to communicate in English. Her message of personal hope and purpose brought the room to a standing ovation. Greenville Tech President, Dr. Keith Miller, followed with insights into the need for leaders to embrace, not avoid, differences within an organization (or in their personal lives). Rather than striving for a cultural “melting pot” (which implies blending multiple cultures into a single, uniform culture) we should challenge ourselves to build a “tapestry” (which implies that each culture brings its own valuable experiences and insights to the table while maintaining their unique identities). Dr. Miller concluded with a story of Abraham Lincoln—perhaps the most respected President in US history—who intentionally selected a diverse group of people for his cabinet, many of whom opposed his views, in order to help understand and overcome the challenge of uniting a divided nation.

Health Within at Long Branch Baptist Church
It was great to see a large, highly engaged audience for the November Salon, Health Within. Pastor Sean Dogan and his church were incredibly gracious hosts. We’re appreciative and inspired by his leadership helping people in the Sullivan Community learn about living healthier lives. Also, special thanks to Margaret Stephens of Live Well Greenville who gave a terrific presentation that we encourage you to watch. If you care about your health, your family’s health, and your community’s health, you might want to watch her video below.
